OnePlus has dismissed concerns after reports of the OnePlus 5 display exhibiting a strange jelly-like scrolling effect began streaming in, claiming instead that the effect is perfectly normal.

OnePlus 5 started off huge at the markets, with initial reports claiming sales have been far bigger than its nearest predecessor, the OnePlus 3T. However, not all seems impressed with the device that has otherwise been critically acclaimed for its class leading performance and features.

The weird wobbling effect while scrolling has obviously taken many by surprise even though the Chinese manufacturer claimed only a small group of OnePlus 5 users have reported of the issue so far. There is a Reddit thread on this already, and there isn’t any dearth of those trying to explain as to what might be causing it.

For instance, there is one where a user claims to have the jelly-scrolling effect solved when scrolling with the phone upside down. Others speculated it could be a software issue after all, or maybe the panel mount orientation isn’t right.

Whatever might be the issue, OnePlus has stated it has nothing to do with the phone hardware, or of their workmanship. “The OnePlus 5 uses the same level of high-quality components as all OnePlus devices, including the AMOLED display. We’ve received feedback from a small number of users saying that at times they notice a subtle visual effect when scrolling. This is natural and there’s no variance in screens between devices,” the company officially stated.

Worth reminding, the company does offer a 15-day free replacement program. So those who can’t adjust to the jelly-scrolling effect can make good use of it. Also since it isn’t being considered anything to do with the manufacturing process, warranty replacement claims aren’t likely to be applicable here.

The otherwise hugely successful OnePlus 5 journey so far has been marred by controversies. First off, there was the issue of benchmark manipulation where the manufacturers is accused of tampering software to make the device look more powerful than it actually is in real life conditions.

Now with jelly like scrolling being reported, all of these will no doubt have an adverse impact on the credibility of the handset that has so far been known for its flagship like build and feel but at a much lower price point. However, with OnePlus losing the price advantage as well, there will no doubt be greater scrutiny of the handset than ever before.

Maybe that is one price to be paid to be in stardom. Apple and Samsung have learned to live with those and OnePlus too will do good to develop a better understanding of it as well.
